DUTIES/QUALIFICATIONS

JOB PROFILE: (Brief summary of responsibilities and requirements)
- Perform original and copy cataloging of materials in all formats; database maintenance, including resolving authority and other cataloging conflicts. Oversee materials processing.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS INCLUDE:

- Efficiently and accurately perform original descriptive and subject cataloging; determine appropriate guidelines in applying rules of AACR2, Library of Congress cataloging, Library of Congress subject headings, and KCLC policies.
- Conduct complex searching and researching in English and Spanish to establish appropriate form of main entries, added entries and place names; assign main entries and subject headings; determine edition statements, imprints, collations and series notes. Apply Unity specific subject headings, and information according to international standards.
- Apply conventions of the OCLC, and Sirsi/Dynix Unicorn online cataloging systems involved in the tagging and subfield coding of the fixed and variable fields and searching protocols. Catalog materials in categories of advanced theological and other backgrounds.
- Correct cataloging errors and resolve difficult conflicts involving appropriate entries; provide assistance to other catalogers in resolving difficult cataloging problems.
- Perform copy cataloging in several subjects with member contributed copy from the Library of Congress or the OCLC computerized international network; perform name authority work, edit OCLC records online.
- Identify and resolve problems with application and system software.
- Establish procedures and supervise a team in special cataloging related projects.
- Establish procedures, oversee and accomplish accurate processing of all library materials.

- Aide Archivist in cataloging archival material and establishing EAD records.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS FOR ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Demonstrated ability to work with automated systems.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Ability to read fine print and computer screens pertaining to Library functions.
- Ability to accurately follow procedures and discern matches and problems in records and items while working in a busy circulation desk area.
- Ability to climb step stools and ladders while shelving and retrieving Library material.
