Security Officer

Department: Security
Status: Full Time, Non Exempt
Work Schedule: Tuesday – Saturday, Nights
Salary Range: $9.50 - $12.34/hr + .53 night diff.

JOB DUTIES/QUALIFICATIONS

JOB OBJECTIVES: (Purpose of the position)

  • Responsible for security operations during assigned shift.  Maintain a safe and secure environment throughout the school buildings, residences and grounds.  Provide friendly, helpful and supportive service for guests, visitors and employees of Unity.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO: (Functions essential to attaining job objectives)

  1. Comply with all Unity policies and rules.
  2. Regular attendance required.
  3. Provide information, assistance and/or aid as required for retreatants, quests, visitors and employees.
  4. Respond to security, fire or maintenance alarms, follow-up with appropriate personnel contact and make written reports.
  5. Provide vehicular or foot patrols of building complex, grounds, lakes and wildlife areas as assigned.
  6. Monitor vehicular traffic, apply traffic /parking regulations and director traffic as needed.
  7. Maintain confidentiality of all reports and security related matters.
  8. Prepare clear and concise reports from factual information obtained during assigned shift.
  9. Perform other duties as assigned by Shift Supervisor or Director of Security.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS FOR ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Twenty-one years of age or older. Two years current experience in security field, armed experience preferred. Recent law enforcement, military police or campus police experience also acceptable. Valid driver’s license required. Must be able to carry and qualify with handgun twice yearly for NRA standards. Must be able to pass criminal check. Satisfactory completion of Human Resource administered test: Basic Office Skills (no math). Good communication and interpersonal skills. Must be willing to work all shifts, weekends and holidays. Computer skills including experience in word processing.  Must be able to drive vehicle, walk, stand ascend and descend stairs for prolonged period during work hours. Must be able to respond quickly to emergency situations in buildings, residences, grounds, lakes and wooded areas. Must be able to handle stress when performing

    Multiple assignments and meeting deadlines. Must be able to communicate effectively in a friendly and helpful manner with employees, quests, visitors, and all levels of management over the phone and in person.

    If driving Unity vehicles must have valid driver’s license and/or if driving personal vehicle, must have valid driver’s license and minimum liability insurance.

EQUIPMENT: (Machines, devices, tools, etc. used in job performance)

  • Handgun
  • Four wheel drive vehicle and other light duty vehicles

PERSONALPROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT:

  • Other PPE as directed by supervisor.
