Tour of Unity
Ministry & Religious Studies

The mission of Unity InstituteSM is to serve humankind through spiritual educational programs. Unity Institute is devoted to continuing the spiritual education work of Charles and Myrtle Fillmore, founders of the Unity spiritual movement.

Unity Institute offers three programs: Master of Divinity, Master of Arts in Religious Studies, and Certificate in Unity Ministry. Each program, outlined in the Unity Institute online catalog, has a specific focus and requirements, though they all offer students the opportunity to gain greater spiritual understanding and development through the unique teachings of Unity. In addition, our new distance-learning courses provide greater flexibility for students pursuing graduate-level education from afar.

The Master of Divinity (MDiv) and the Master of Arts in Religious Studies (MA) are degree programs. In addition, Unity Institute offers one nondegree, noncredit program: Certificate in Unity Ministry.

For general information about these programs, please read the FAQs. If you need additional information, please contact the Unity Institute registrar at registrar@unityonline.org.

Unity Licensing and Ordination
The Association of Unity Churches International governs the process of licensing and ordaining Unity ministers. Interviews for admission to the ordination path now take place twice a year. Graduation from Unity Institute does not guarantee licensing or ordination. Any person interested in becoming a licensed and ordained Unity minister should contact the Education Department of the Association of Unity Churches International:

P.O. Box 610
Lee’s Summit, MO 64063

You do not need to be admitted to the ordination path in order to take classes at Unity Institute.

Admissions Process
Unity Institute welcomes applications from all people regardless of age, race, gender, religion, national origin, sexual orientation or disabilities. Applications received are considered on an equal basis.

Applications for admission to the degree and certificate programs are accepted throughout the academic year. Each program has a different application process. Please consult the Unity Institute catalog for information about the admissions process for each program. Questions about admissions (or about taking courses without admission to a specific program) may be directed to the Unity Institute registrar.

Unity Library and Archives
Unity Library and Archives is a spiritual and educational resource center serving the Unity Institute educational programs and retreats and those who seek information, education, inspiration and spiritual growth. We are located at the east end of the Education Building in Unity Village. The Circulating Library is on the first floor and the Archives are on the second floor.

Accreditation
Unity Institute is currently in conversation with the Higher Learning Commission (HLC), a commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, to become a member of the association with its Master of Divinity and Master of Arts in Religious Studies programs. Unity Institute cautions potential students that this conversation with HLC is not a guarantee that Unity Institute will become accredited.
